Island Environmental Development and Conservation
Preserving the natural equilibrium of islands has become one of the most significant challenges of our time. The most critical step in island environmental development is waste management, particularly the complete prevention of plastic waste to protect seawater and marine biodiversity.
Planting mangroves around the island serves a dual purpose: it prevents soil erosion and acts as a natural shield against tidal surges. Furthermore, it is essential to manage the pressure of excessive tourism by introducing 'eco-tourism' or environmentally friendly travel practices.
For sustainable energy, we must transition from diesel generators to solar power or other renewable energy sources. Additionally, rainwater harvesting is crucial for securing freshwater reserves. Only planned development that keeps nature intact can ensure the long-term survival of an island.
Siddique-Nahar Welfare Foundation (SNWF) is committed to working with people from all walks of life to improve and protect the island's environment.
